Your Guide to Looking 10 Years Younger

Even though it is undeniable that all ages are beautiful and that “fine wine just keeps getting better with time”, I think we can all agree that a lot of us wish we were looking 10 years younger. Thankfully, in the modern world that we live in, with all the technology and resources available – it is hardly a problem.

It is true that it gets a little more challenging to maintain our youthful glow as we grow older – it just takes a little more effort. On top of that, most of us tend to take our youth and health for granted, disregarding it until we start noticing signs of aging. The wind, sun, lack of proper hydration, and poor diet can also contribute to premature aging.

Thankfully, there are many things you could do in order to stay looking 10 years younger even without having to resort to plastic surgery. However, it is important to realize that this goal will require discipline and patience to see results and look more youthful.

Here’s our best 10 tips on looking 10 years younger:

  1. Establish A Healthy Routine

More often than not, your skin and body incurs damage due to poor daily routines and bad habits. You may not be aware of it so perhaps it’s time to examine your everyday routine to find out if there is anything preventing you from looking 10 years younger. Do you have a skincare regimen in place? How much stress do you endure in your daily life? Do you go to bed early and get a healthy amount of sleep for your age?

According to the National Sleep Foundation, the recommended amount of sleep varies according to your age:

  • Newborns (0-3 months): Sleep range narrowed to 14-17 hours each day (previously it was 12-18)
  • Infants (4-11 months): Sleep range widened two hours to 12-15 hours (previously it was 14-15)
  • Toddlers (1-2 years): Sleep range widened by one hour to 11-14 hours (previously it was 12-14)
  • Preschoolers (3-5): Sleep range widened by one hour to 10-13 hours (previously it was 11-13)
  • School age children (6-13): Sleep range widened by one hour to 9-11 hours (previously it was 10-11)
  • Teenagers (14-17): Sleep range widened by one hour to 8-10 hours (previously it was 8.5-9.5)
  • Younger adults (18-25): Sleep range is 7-9 hours (new age category)
  • Adults (26-64): Sleep range did not change and remains 7-9 hours
  • Older adults (65+): Sleep range is 7-8 hours (new age category)

In order to stay youthful, it is crucial to get the right amount of sleep – during rest, your body repairs it’s cells, which is very important for both your body’s functioning and the way you look. So getting a good, restful sleep consistently is a good place to start if you’re aiming to look younger. Another important thing is to have a healthy skincare routine in place, as our face and neck are one of the major indicators of our age. Another thing to keep in mind is the amount of stress you have to deal with on the daily – it is proven that people tend to age faster when they undergo large amounts of stress on a consistent basis. In order to look younger, try establishing healthy routines in your life – it requires patience to see results, but it is definitely worth it.

  1. Ditch the Unhealthy Habits

If you drink and/or smoke, it is a good idea to start cutting down your alcohol intake and/or the number of cigarettes you smoke. Drinking and smoking are proven to have a significant impact on the way you age, often causing premature aging and various health issues. While it can be hard quitting alcohol or cigarettes completely – try thinking about some alternatives instead. For instance, you could limit yourself to a glass of red wine twice a week. Red wine contains antioxidants that promote a youthful glow, so even alcohol can have a positive impact on your health if consumed in moderation. When it comes to smoking, there are multiple alternatives that you can use instead as well.

  1. Get Moving!

Exercise can help increase your bone density and tone your muscles, leaving you looking 10 years younger. A routine like yoga and pilates can help tighten sagging muscles and increase the mobility of the joints. A fit, slim body contributes to an overall younger look.

Exercising can also boost your energy level, and your body will feel lighter and refreshed, which will lead to you feeling more agile and young. Fitness experts recommend aerobic exercises at least three times a week, at least 20 to 30 minutes per session for best results. We understand that certain types of exercise aren’t suitable for everybody, but thankfully there are a ton of options to choose from – jogging, lifting weights, yoga, pilates, swimming, etc. Even if you don’t want to do any of these, there are always exercise options that don’t even feel like a workout, for instance long walks or a team sport such as tennis.

  1. Keep Yourself Well-Hydrated

Another crucial rule to looking 10 years younger is proper hydration. Keeping your body well-hydrated will help you achieve your goal of looking young with less effort, since proper hydration is one of the most important factors in how you look. A healthy water balance will take care of your skin’s elasticity, cell repair, toned muscles, healthy hair and nails, keeping you young and healthy. The recommended amount of daily water intake for an adult is a gallon of water. Keep in mind that it doesn’t always have to be water – liquids such as tea, infused water, sparkling water with a little flavor, or apple juice will also do a good job of keeping your water balance healthy. However, the recommended daily water intake will vary depending on your lifestyle. If you spent an hour for your workout, you need to add 24 ounces to your water consumption for the day to compensate for the lost fluid. If you need to engage in a more strenuous activity that would make you sweat a lot, you definitely need to increase your water intake further.

  1. Make Sure You’re Following A Well-Balanced Diet

You will be looking 10 years younger in no time if you focus on what you consume, after all they do say “you are what you eat” for a reason. In order to stay looking young, it is important to have a well-balanced, healthy diet that includes the right amount of vegetables, fresh fruits, proteins and healthy fat. This kind of diet regimen can not only help you lose weight or maintain a healthy weight, but it will also have a major positive impact on how you look. To get the most benefits from your nutrition, make sure to include all the necessary food groups into our diet and opt for whole, unprocessed foods.

When choosing a diet, make sure it includes foods that support your goal of looking 10 years younger. For example, making salmon your weeknight staple can be very beneficial for your skin. It is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which can help reduce inflammation and make your skin look more youthful. Don’t forget to add lots of leafy greens that contain zeaxanthin and lutein that can help you hydrate and protect the cells of your skin. Leafy greens come in various forms and are very easy to include in your diet – snack on some kale chips, include the greens in your salad, or add them to your smoothies to get the nutrients that your body needs.

  1. Use Natural Ingredients When Taking Care of Your Skin

In order to treat your skin properly to stop it from aging, you might want to consider some natural skincare alternatives. When using skincare products choose the ones that contain natural ingredients and no added chemicals. For example, look into some natural face masks that are easy to make at home, or try using essential oils as a way to lock in moisture in your body instead of a lotion. Essential oils are also helpful when you’re taking care of your eyebrows and eyelashes – some oils, for instance argan oil or castor oil are known to increase your eyelash growth. There are also various hair and nail care options when it comes to natural, made at home remedies.

  1. Never Skip Sunscreen

If you want to keep our skin looking youthful, this is the piece of advice that you don’t want to skip. UV damage is one of the main factors contributing to premature aging – the difference that some sunscreen can make is amazing. For best results, apply sunscreen on your face and neck every morning (even during days that don’t seem very sunny) and make sure to go for sunscreens that are at least SPF 35.

  1. Maintain An Active Sex Life!

When it comes to looking younger, this is advice that is hard to top. According to research, regular pleasurable intercourse can help you feel and look 5 to 7 years younger! When you get busy, your blood flow to the skin is increased, which helps skin cell repair and regeneration. It also boosts your immune system, increases production of estrogen, which helps maintain your skin elasticity. Finally, having sex also releases the main anti aging hormone – oxytocin.

  1. Take Care Of Your Hands

One of the easiest ways to tell someone’s age is done by looking at their hands. While your face and body can be easily maintained, our hands tend to be harder to keep looking young. And yet, it is one of the biggest signs of aging. When constructing your skincare routine, make sure to include hand care into it. Massages and moisturizing can help you achieve younger-looking hands.

  1. Consider Skipping A Meal

One of the greatest tools at our disposal when it comes to looking 10 years younger is intermittent fasting. It is a dietary plan that consists in fasting for the most part of the day and only eating during a predetermined “time window”, usually 6-8 hours. Fasting promotes the production of the human growth hormone, which will boost your body’s collagen production and make you look significantly younger.
